Travis Perkins - Managing a Marketing Executive Apprentice
Q: WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO TAKE ON A LEVEL 4 MARKETING EXECUTIVE APPRENTICE?
I’m passionate about personal development, and I’ve been fortunate enough to have managers who have supported me in learning new skills and growing into different roles within our business.
I wanted to ensure that continuous learning and improvement were part of the Marketing Assistants role and so an apprenticeship was an obvious choice.
Q: WHAT IMPACT HAS YOUR MARKETING EXECUTIVE APPRENTICE HAD ON YOUR ORGANISATION?
Being on an apprenticeship has meant that they network with colleagues from outside of our organisation. It’s allowed them to bring new ideas and concepts to the table.
Q: WHAT IMPACT HAS OUR TRAINING HAD ON YOUR APPRENTICE’S PROGRESS?
Kelly has tackled big projects and demonstrated great planning and thought. She has considered how to get stakeholders involved and executed projects beyond my expectations.
Now, here’s what Kelly had to say…

Q: WHAT INTERESTED YOU IN TAKING THE APPRENTICESHIP ROUTE?
To be completely honest, it was part of the job description so it was put forward to me then.
However, I’m pleased it was. It played a huge part in finding the confidence to risk a career change. I am self-taught in most of what I do and the course has been fine-tuning all my skills and backing up my learning throughout the first year on the job.
Q: NOW THAT YOU’VE STARTED YOUR APPRENTICESHIP, WHAT ARE YOU MOST EXCITED ABOUT?
The activities set during training weeks are brilliant, they spark so much idea generation. Each week there are several hypothetical situations (if time, money, and resource wasn’t an issue) where I can plan marketing campaigns or create material that we could use within the brand.
Having this dedicated time to study our industry, competitors, brand identity, audience etc… often brings out new ideas or allows me to take a fraction of what I have created and build on them. I get so much excitement from being back in the business and showcasing what I had learned the previous week.
To caveat this, time, budget, and resources are limited in the real world and we do plenty of activities around research, planning and funding too. The tutors are extremely down-to-earth and enthusiastic. They build engaging, fun lessons and use current, modern examples of marketing so it’s work we can relate to.
Q: WOULD YOU RECOMMEND BALTIC APPRENTICESHIPS TO SOMEONE CONSIDERING AN APPRENTICESHIP?
I would definitely recommend Baltic Apprenticeships. Aside from the course content being full of accurate detail, the tutors and coaches are so willing to provide support and join your excitement about what the future holds for you.
